History

About Windsor Park

Named after the Windsor district of south Belfast, the ground opened in 1905 with a match between Linfield and Glentoran. Archibald Leitch redeveloped it in the 1930s, giving it a peak capacity of 60,000 with one seated grandstand and large terraces. The two-tier North Stand followed in the 1980s and the Kop Stand in the late 1990s. A mainly government-funded redevelopment, estimated at £29.2 million when it was approved in 2013, replaced the South and Railway stands between 2014 and 2016; the West Stand was also rebuilt after cracks were found in it in March 2015.

Seating layout

Windsor Park seating plan & capacity

The four stands take their names from their compass positions for international matches. The South Stand is the main stand, and the East Stand is the family stand.

  • South Stand

The main stand along the side of the pitch, with lower and upper tiers and VIP seating in its central and wide areas.

  • North Stand

The two-tier stand along the opposite side, first built in the 1980s and renovated in the redevelopment.

  • East Stand

The stand behind the goal at the Railway End, used as the family stand.

  • West Stand

The Kop end behind the other goal, rebuilt after the old stand was found to be cracked in 2015.
