History

About Veltins-Arena

Built from 1998 to replace the Parkstadion, the privately financed arena opened on 13 August 2001 as the Arena AufSchalke, at a cost of about €191 million. Because it sits above two former coal-mine shafts, it was aligned north-east to south-west to reduce the risk from ground movement. The brewery Veltins bought the naming rights in July 2005. It hosted the 2004 Champions League final and matches at the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2024.

  • Nordkurve

  • Gästeblock
