History
About Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium
The stadium was built between 1933 and 1935 and opened as the Dinamo Stadium, and was renovated in 1953. A renovation costing more than US$3 million with UEFA support began in 1999, and by the end of 2000 every seat was covered. It became the Republican Stadium in 1999 and was named after Vazgen Sargsyan, the prime minister killed in the parliament shooting, by presidential decree on 28 December 1999. In 2008 an Israeli company replaced the pitch and upgraded the VIP areas and security, and the new VIP sections reduced capacity from 14,917 to 14,403.
