History
About Stade Atlantique Bordeaux Métropole
Built from November 2012 to April 2015 to designs by Herzog & de Meuron, the stadium replaced the Stade Chaban-Delmas so that Bordeaux could host Euro 2016. It was inaugurated on 18 May 2015, and Girondins de Bordeaux beat Montpellier 2–1 in the first match on 23 May 2015. It was called Matmut Atlantique under a naming deal from September 2015 until Matmut withdrew in July 2025. The public-private partnership that built and ran it ended on 1 August 2025, when Bordeaux Métropole took over its management.
