History
About Mewa Arena
Building work began on 5 May 2009 on a site in Mainz-Bretzenheim, and the stadium opened on 3 July 2011 as the Coface Arena, replacing the Bruchwegstadion that Mainz 05 had used for 72 years. The first Bundesliga match was a 2–0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on 7 August 2011, with Sami Allagui scoring the first league goal. It became the Opel Arena in 2016 and the Mewa Arena in July 2021 under a deal with the textile-services firm MEWA. Costs were around €60–70 million.
