History

About Stadion Hristo Botev

A pitch was first opened on the site in 1923 on land bought by Saint Augustine College, which gave the ground its nickname, Kolezha. The stadium was rebuilt from 1959 and reopened on 14 May 1961 with a 3–0 friendly win for Botev over Steaua Bucharest. All the stands were demolished in 2013 for a rebuild to 18,777 seats, but work stopped in 2014 when the main sponsor, Corporate Commercial Bank, collapsed. Building resumed under a 2020 contract, the first match in the new stadium was against Levski Sofia on 29 April 2023, and the roof and façade were completed in mid-2024.
