History
About Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa
The original municipal stadium was built in the late 1950s and 1960s under Manuel Magalhães Pessoa, vice-president of the town council, whose name it took in the early 1970s. It was rebuilt to a design by Tomás Taveira for Euro 2004 and reopened on 19 November 2003 with Portugal’s 8–0 win over Kuwait. A temporary north stand of 5,478 seats was added for Euro 2004, when it hosted two Group B matches. Storm Kristin damaged the roof and pitch on 28 January 2026, forcing União de Leiria to play elsewhere until April 2026.
