History

About Estadi Municipal de Montilivi

Montilivi opened on 14 August 1970 with a friendly that Girona lost 1–3 to Barcelona, in front of a crowd reported at nearly 25,000. Designed by Josep Ros to almost the same plan as Sabadell’s Nova Creu Alta, it cost just under 6.5 million pesetas. The club sold the ground to the city in 1984 because of debt, and in 2012 the council ceded it to Girona for 30 years, extendable to 50. The east stand partly collapsed in the 1990s and was rebuilt in 2009–10, seats were fitted throughout in 2008, and temporary rows were added in 2017, 2018 and 2022 as the club moved between divisions.
