History

About ista-Borussia-Park

Building began on 13 November 2002 on a former British Army barracks site in the Nordpark area, and the stadium opened on 30 July 2004 with a small tournament including Bayern Munich and AS Monaco. It replaced the smaller Bökelbergstadion and cost about €86.9 million. Borussia’s first Bundesliga match there, on 14 August 2004, was a 3–2 defeat by Borussia Dortmund. The ground hosted matches at the 2011 Women’s World Cup, including a semi-final, and has carried the sponsor name ista-Borussia-Park since 1 July 2026 under a deal running to at least 30 June 2031.
