History

About Air Albania Stadium

The stadium stands on the site of the Qemal Stafa Stadium, Albania’s main ground for some 70 years, whose last match was the Albanian Cup final on 22 May 2016. Demolition began on 9 June 2016, and AlbStar built the new stadium to a design by Marco Casamonti of Archea Associati; the cost rose from about €45 million to as much as €85 million. It was inaugurated on 17 November 2019 with Albania’s 2–0 defeat by France in a Euro 2020 qualifier. Known during building as Arena Kombëtare, it took the Air Albania name under a sponsorship deal signed in 2019.
