History

About Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium

OFI built the ground between 1949 and 1951 on the site of disused Christian, Jewish and Armenian cemeteries, and opened it on 11 November 1951 with a 4–1 defeat by ASDAN. The club’s title to the land was disputed for years and was settled in its favour only between 1967 and 1974. The north side was extended in 1987, the areas and roofs at gates 4, 5 and 8 were rebuilt in 2001, and the ground was a training venue for the 2004 Olympic football tournament. It was renamed in the late 1990s after Theodoros Vardinogiannis, the club official who died in 1996. In July 2025 OFI agreed a ten-year move to the Pankritio Stadium.

Seating layout

Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium seating plan & capacity

The ground is irregular: half of the north side is large and covered while the rest is lower and open, because streets and housing hem it in on three sides and graves remain behind the north stand.

  • Gate 1

The uncovered east end, holding about 1,700 since advertising boards were placed in front of the lower rows.

  • Gates 2, 3 and 7

The low, mostly covered south stand, with about 860 places.

  • Gates 4 and 5

The west end, home of OFI’s organised supporters, holding about 2,500 with most seats removed.

  • Gate 8

The large covered section next to the directors’ area, with about 2,300 places.

  • Gate 9

The covered directors’ section in the centre of the north stand, with about 400 places.

  • Gate 6

The uncovered away section in the north stand, behind the visitors’ bench, with 770 places.
